The first iteration of Sandcastle was a partly finished graphic novel written and drawn in black ink, mostly on sheets of newsprint in 2020.

OK—I guess that’s not exactly true. At first, I thought Sandcastle was going to be a prose novel. And when it turned out that I didn’t want to write a novel, I gave up.
Years later, I was in my second year of law school and wanted very badly not to be. Then there was a pandemic, and I needed something to get me through video conferencing all my classes. I hadn’t drawn comics in years, but for some reason, I decided, “Hey, might as well write a graphic novel.” Sandcastle was still the only material I had.

I wasn’t paying attention to doing it right, or even doing it well. Consequently, you can sort of see the point where I got deep enough into the project to start taking it seriously.

Here it is. It’s uneven, but I’m proud of it. Enjoy.
